Why Do Dogs Chase Cats?
The common association of cats and dogs with conflict is often extended to human relationships. For instance, two people who constantly bicker are often likened to cats and dogs. Consequently, cats and dogs are generally known as an incompatible pair among people. The true reason why cats and dogs attack each other is unknown. However, according to popular belief, cats attack dogs because they resemble dogs and are smaller than them. But it would be incorrect to state this as the definitive reason. A common reason for dogs attacking is that cats approach their food. This is because cats have historically been known for their ungratefulness. In fact, some people are compared to cats in this regard. However, cats are generally docile and not aggressive. But for some reason, dogs attack cats on sight. This varies by breed. For example, some dogs have become very tame and even friendly with cats. Generally, chasing cats has become a characteristic behavior of street dogs. But this situation can sometimes be reversed. For instance, there are times when a cat chases a dog, and the video below is a perfect example of this.
An Old Historical Account:
According to old legends, the reason dogs chase cats is known as follows: When Noah (peace be upon him) was loading animals onto his ark, he separated the aggressive and domesticated ones. Noah (pbuh) told the people and animals gathered on the ark, "There will be no multiplication on the ark." The dog, who did not listen, mated and multiplied with its own kind. Upon hearing this, the cat immediately complained to Noah (pbuh) about the dog. Hearing this, the dog said to the cat, "As long as I am around, I will chase you and not leave you in peace." And from that day until today, when a dog sees a cat, it chases it and does not leave it alone.
